As for the setting in the beautiful Shropshire hills – outstanding!!”

“A perfect place to relax. Deborah and Phil were the best hosts and their staff were very accommodating and friendly.

The inn is just lovely .. You won’t be disappointed.

We only managed to reserve a room at the last minute as they just had a cancellation that day ( fortunately for us ) It certainly won’t be the last time we visit as it has quickly become one of our favourite places to stay ! Oh yes .. You can’t forget the countryside … Just beautiful …and the food .. Can’t forget the food .. Very good !

If you’re planning a weekend away you don’t need to look any further, just book a room with the Baron of Bucknell and you’ll be so happy you did. ”

The room we stayed in was beautifully decorated, the decor was modern but the kept lovely original touches of a Country Inn. The room was extremely clean and there was a good selection of amenities included. The modern en-suite bathroom was also very clean and spacious. The breakfast selection we had included was also excellent with plenty of choice , the Full English was very tasty! The location of the Inn was also perfect, there were lovely views across the Countryside and was in a quaint area but also not far from local activities etc. We would definitely stay here again, perfect example of a little Country Inn! ”

“Idyllic location, extremely quiet. Clean spacious room. Helpful friendly staff. Good choices on breakfast menu. This is our fourth visit and would highly recommend to potential visitors. Only one tiny niggle – not enough shelves in bathroom – seems to be the same everywhere – or do we have too many toiletries?”

Tip:  ” Definitely glorious walking country. If you like that sort of thing, pay a visit to the Sun Inn (a tiny parlour pub) at Leintwardine -it’s like stepping back into the past!. Or even better is the Museum Of Lost Content in Craven Arms – packed full of things from yesteryear. Can’t comment on anything else as we visit mainly to see relatives in the area.”

“All staff friendly and hospitable. Very welcoming with a ‘regulars’ experience despite us having only stayed a couple of times. On our first stay we were allocated Room 5 which is lovely. Very boutique hotel. Our second and more recent stay was in Room 3. The décor and cleanliness again was faultless although due to the nature of the building, Room 3 only has a small window which made it feel a little dark. That said, the lovely high ceiling give a sense of space. Would highly recommend the Baron. ”

That was fun! Ludlow is also very pretty with 500+ listed buildings, pretty tea shops and a market. Worth a visit.”

5th January 2015, guest from Coventry: “All staff were fantastic and made the extra effort to ensure we were made to feel welcome. Silly little things like remembering rounds of drinks and offering to change parts of meals to accommodate those picky eaters in our group went a long way to make us feel appreciated as customers. Our stay was over the New Year period and even though all the staff were obviously busy on New Year’s Eve itself, we were still frequently asked if we needed drinks refreshed at our table to save us from standing and queuing at the bar. I would have been happy to stand and queue, but the staff insisted on going that extra mile. There is a good range of starters, mains and deserts available from the menu. Perhaps some may consider them a little on the pricey side, but this is one of those cases where you absolutely get what you pay for. Each meal was nothing short of delicious, cooked to perfection, and worth every penny if not more! The building itself and grounds are obviously well maintained and cared for. The restaurant area matches the high quality of the food being served and the bar areas are welcoming. The room I stayed in was well decorated/furnished and finished to a very high standard. If I was to have one negative it would only be that the shower pressure was a little low, but the bathroom and room was spotlessly clean, warm and quiet. Also the bed was one of the most comfortable beds I’ve ever slept in. I would and will definitely stay here again and have already recommended the Baron at Bucknell to friends and family.”

The rooms are lovely, clean and comfy with all requirements thought of. We ate both nights in the restaurant as the food is amazing (the mushroom starter is out of this world!). Phil and Debra are great hosts and would recommend this place highly!!”

Tip: “During our stay we visited Knighton (offa’s dyke visitors centre) which is around a 20 minute drive. We also went to the Elan Valley (about 1 hour drive but worth it, more so when it’s rained a lot!) and 4 miles from Elan the red kite feeding farm which was fantastic.”

The breakfast menu is varied and properly prepared, while the dinner menu offers a wide choice of deliciously cooked meals. All this at a very reasonable price in picturesque surroundings.”

“we stayed for 5 nights and were very happy with everything, food, accommodation, friendly staff and cats. Would recommend the Baron to anyone. The only downside was opening times for the bar was 6pm but given that this is a very quiet and unspoilt village it is to be expected and with the surrounding countryside to be explored all day who needs a drink earlier. Food was exceptional, beautifully prepared, reasonably priced and just the right portion size so a fabulous pudding can be enjoyed! We stayed in room 5 which was spotlessly clean and the view was outstanding. We travel in England quite a lot and this has got to be one of the very best places we have stayed at. Well done to all at the Baron.”

Our two evening meals were very very good, we could have chatted or be left alone…..our choice……the waitress was beyond attentive with such honest opinions of the food (both accurate and kind). We could not fault the stay – and we are picky! Thank you. ”
Tip: “We weren’t able to go walking as the roads were like rivers, but we thoroughly enjoyed mooching around Ludlow, Shrewsbury and Bridgnorth. If you are in to leather products there are two fabulous shops to visit….Martin Pryce on Pepper Lane and Matt Fothergill on the Bullring. ”

22nd May 2014, guest from Southampton:
“Certainly have nothing to complain about! Everything about The Baron is excellent from the location to the friendly staff and well equipped rooms. The bottle of water and chocolates in the room was a nice touch. If I had any negative comment it would be the somewhat limited menu however we had the fish pie and it was homemade and delicious, perhaps another vegetable other than just peas would have been good but I am being “picky” here. I suspect The Baron know their demographic and cater well to their regular clientele. We would be more than happy to stay there again next time we are in the area. An excellent Hotel, highly recommended.”

“Both evening meal and breakfast was of the highest quality and I stay in a lot of hotels of varying quality and stars. The room was superb with a lovely oak beam stretching across the ceiling and just above the wall mounted 32″ tv. Very comfy bed and for the first time in ages I had my snooze alarm go off three times as I kept nodding off again! My only negative was the distraction of the frollicking rabbits, chasing each other in the hazy morning in the fields in front of the hotel, whilst eating breakfast in the conservatory. As you can tell, I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and will be back next time in the area.”

The landlord and landlady are very pleasant and helpful and the meals are excellent. (Check out the Chinese-style sea bass!)”

5th December 2013, guest from Alton:
“Stayed for just one night, but will be back. My sister and I had a wonderful stay in room 4 and it comes highly recommended. sat in bed and watched the sheep in the field while sipping tea. We had the pizza for our evening meal which was delicious ( lunch and tea rooms in Ludlow didn’t leave room for much more), breakfast was fab. The only negative comment I would make would be the picture on the web site of the bar area. It looks old fashioned, which it is not, and a picture of the apple press and wheel in the dinning room would have much more impact.”

A light, airy, spacious ‘inn’ immaculately maintained with many small touches (such as ‘real’ coat hangers, a ‘nightlight’ in the bathroom, efficient heated towel rails, easy-access Wi-Fi, solid locks and security etc.) which reflect a careful attention to detail by the owners to ensure a relaxing break. The ‘local walks’ information sheets are reassuringly accurate. Plenty of smiling faces ensure a homely feel from the moment you arrive. Good pub food, well-kept real ale and excellent service. Would definitely return.”

A warm welcome from all the staff encountered during our visit, along with the room and the restaurant serving a high level of food and drink. This is an establishment worthy of more than one visit. A relaxed atmosphere gives the Baron the ideal location and level of service to provide for many celebration occasions.
The only problem we encountered is the distance travelled, but we will be back!”
Tip: “Bucknell is a small village with very limited facilities , but if you like walking , mountain biking there are plenty of trails locally. Information about other attractions is available from the Baron.”

21st October 2013, guest from Knaphill:
“Thoroughly enjoyed my stay. I booked this hotel for a family reunion, we were all very impressed! By far the best hotel we have stayed in, rooms were beautifully decorated and exceptionally clean. We stayed in all 5 of the rooms at the same time and they were all lovely. Breakfast was fantastic, extra thick bacon was a special treat! Staff were great with our small children, family friendly hotel.”
Tip: “You can eat at the hotel, the food is lovely and the menu caters for everyone. All the food is freshly made. There are lots of walks from the hotel, castles to visit. We went to the owl centre which was great for the children, lots of animals/pheasants to see and owls including red squirrels. Would highly recommend.”

“What a beautiful place to unwind and relax! Phil and the team were very welcoming and made my stay thoroughly enjoyable. My room was stunning, modern and clean all whilst tying in with the original features of a true country lodge. Great food and lovely atmosphere. I am very much looking forward to returning. 10/10, and I don’t give that score lightly!”

3rd October 2013, guest from Frinton On Sea:
“Lovely small friendly hotel. Food was excellent, and the location quiet and idyllic. The rooms were modern and comfortable, the only downside was the reception for the television, which is not the fault of the hotel but the hills disrupting the signal.
A very pleasant stay and will return in the future.

30th September 2013, guest from Nottingham:
“Excellent facilities and we were made to feel very welcome – thank you. My only comment (and not a moan) would be aimed at the choices on the evening menu. I personally would have liked to have seen more traditional options (steak and ale pie -lamb shank etc ) and thought the pizza choice was OTT – however, if the pizza is a good seller then fair enough. ”
Tip: “Ludlow a must for a visit. Get up early and get out into the local countryside – i.e. don’t miss the train and rule out the linear walk back from Knighton”
